And Then There Were Some Continued

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Well the sell out went quite well!

I had two bunnies for sale before the sell out, and I have the same two after the sell out. xD

All of my other bunnies were claimed within 24 hours (and all but one were also picked up!) Many thanks to Jane and Morgan who did all that driving!

So I’m down to 7 bunnies at my house, 2 of which are for other people.

It feels kinda lonesome but also a bit of a relief.

I still have cages and supplies but I’m “slowing down” a bit on that and will probably do all extra rabbit work on the weekends.

Right now it looks as if I can make it to the March show so I’m pretty happy about that. :)

I’ll be sticking around blogging and checking out rabbit forums. I lasted for about a day doing neither. xD

I’ve g2g – stuff to do!

And then there were some

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

I’ve made the hard and frustrating decision to sell out of rabbits. It did take a while but I think it’s been coming on for a bit now.

The reasons why:

1) Time – Obviously we’d all love to have a lot more time to spend with our bunnies, but now my spare time is filled with other projects and lots of school. I don’t have the time I’d like to practice posing, take pictures, and even play with the bunnies.

2) Parents – my parents were never thrilled at the idea of rabbit breeding and lately it’s come to a head, with my mom turning everything into a chore. She doesn’t like me going to shows, or driving to pick up rabbits, or spending money on rabbits, or practically anything. I honestly just can’t take it anymore. I’m not perfect and I know that but she doesn’t seem to understand. *shrug* anyway, every five minutes I get a yell that I need to do something so perhaps no rabbit breeding would help out her.

3) Allergies – I found out I’m allergic to rabbits and they’re probably what’s causing me to get these reoccuring sinus infections. These infections make me feel awful and drain me of energy, leaving even less time to spend with the bunnies.

So yes, it’s time to sell out.

I’ll update the site soon and hopefully post the prices, but for a little, I’m letting friends I know take bunnies if they want. I may wait to announce it ”officially” because of the long weekend and give my friends more time.

All rabbits will be for sale except for Dark Knight, Penelope and Basil. Yes, that does make a compatiable trio but if I do breed, it probably will only be a litter or two a year.

On a more positive note, Coconut had a litter of four on Friday! These were my first, and probably last, brokens!

I have Icing (charlie, hotot-marked – broken black), Sprinkles(broken – feather pattern-black), Raspberry Truffle(broken black – feather pattern) and Dirk (broken (blue?) – blanket patter). (food names after mom, dirk is after the dad, Mace)

Dirk is on the small side, can’t decide if he’s a runt or a peanut, but I’ll find out soon I guess.

I don’t know how well I’ll be able to keep up with you guys, I’ll probably won’t post regularly on this blog and not comment on others, but I will at least read y’alls from time to time. It’s hard to end this all, but I’m hoping it’s for the better.

Twiddling my thumbs

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

There really is nothing new around here.

The bunnies are all doing well and Coconut is due on Saturday so I’m moving her in today.

I still need to get updated pictures, but unfourtanetly, I can’t pose a bunny and take a picture at the same time. Most of my bunnies are pains and won’t hold their pose long enough to let me.

I’ve just been pulling through life right now. I wake up just as tired as when I go to bed (sickness still) so my goal is simply to get all my school/chores done and then sleep. It’s kinda annoying, but I’m sure it’ll get better eventually. :)

For now, there’s nothing new, but I am reading your blogs so update lots! =D

No new bunnies

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

It was almost final but it ended up falling through – I was going to get a pair of brokens from Spring Creek Gems, however, my mom didn’t like the idea, just as I was putting the money in the mail. xD

It’s too bad but I’m sure I’ll get some bunnies sooner or later. I really could use some for the otters, which leads me to . . .

http://www.harmonyrabbittrails.com/index.htm

I’ve been keeping my eye on her bunnies for quite a while now . . . they’re goregous! I may get the chance to get some if an AFL breeder comes down from Ohio like she says she might.

Besides that things have been quiet around the rabbitry. It’s been rainy so no play dates or breedings. I did take two videos but I haven’t gotten around to getting them off the camera.

Too much school, too little time.

See you guys around!

Please note: my computer has been mean about letting me comment on people’s blogs – so sorry if I haven’t for a while.

And then there were none!

Monday, January 5th, 2009

That’s what I feel like now. Although today was the first day back to school from break, I haven’t gotten much done (don’t worry – I’m staying up late doing homework) I spent most of today going to Christie Riddles to drop off two bunnies – Butter Than You (man I’m sad to see him go!) and R.P. (not so sad – never even got a litter out of her)

I picked up RBB’s Basil for my BEW program – what a beauty! She’s great for a ND and so having her be BEW is just fantastic! I can’t wait until I can get a litter out of her.

Then, just a little while ago I sold ABC’s Robin to a pet home. She really is worth at least $50 but I gave her as $40 because I’d rather she go to a spoiled pet home than to a caged breeder’s home (nothing against us breeders but it’s much easier for a rabbit to get attention when it’s an only rabbit).

Well anyway, I went to my sale page and updated, also including that I’ve decided to keep both of Robin’s siblings – I think Robin is a carbon image of her mom – so I’ll just do a rebred, wheras Penelope (black otter doe) has been named “best of the litter” and is an otter so I’m keeping her.

Dark Knight is just too precious to let go – he’s a sweety with mass and I think he’ll do well on the tables . . . I’ll find out soon I guess!

I’m rambling though, so sorry, I went to my sale page and updated and realized that I now have only two rabbits for sale. Hence the title of this post, it feels empty. It’s ok I guess, I’d rather have fewer rabbits and I think that the rabbits I have now I really like and can use.

I may have a surprise for you guys too . . . possibly a pair of new bunnies but my mom still hasn’t given me the green light for those. I’ll give you a hint just in case – it’s a color project from a breeder that I really like. (sad hint I know but I can’t think of another one that wouldn’t give it away)

Another New Year

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

It’s hard to believe it’s 2009!

The day did start off sadly, Solar kindled one blue VM kit which was DOA. It was sad but I could at least be glad it wasn’t a BEW.

Since it’s New Year’s Day here’s my rabbitry resolutions for the year:

1) Produce at least 2 litters of BEW NDs – I am seriously considering only doing BEW NDs but I’m not sure. Inputs welcome.

2) Get a trio of AFL

3) Have at least one AFL litter

4) Have the rabbitry fully operational – every tray, every food bowl, every water bottle, etc

5) Attend more than two ARBA shows (what I did this year)

6) Grand a home-grown rabbit – a lofty goal but I’d love it.

g2g!

No babies yet . . .

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Still no babies out of Solar, she was looking very uncomfortable yesterday and she’s building a new nest today so I’m still hopeful. Her due date was yesterday.

Nothing else is new.

Don’t forget to update all your blogs. ;) I’m still reading them.

Kits on the way?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I’m pretty sure Solar is in labor or will be very soon .. . unfourtanetly, she hates me being there so I’m leaving her be. I would set up a video camera or something but I can’t find it. :(

Keep her in your thoughts please! I’d love some blue eyed babies in my rabbitry!

Catching up!

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

So I’ve been TERRIBLE about blogging, sorry, I’m on break, what do you expect?

The news?

1) Kentucky seems to have breeding problems . . . once I get the time to really focus on it, I’m going to give him a through checking over and make sure it’s not just that he’s small or w/e

3) Solar is due on the 30th. She’s inside the house just in case, although the weather has been . . . warm! (how does that work?)

4) Picking up Basil next week! Yay!

Other than that?

Not much! Just the weekly stuff done, I’m hopefully going to do some bunnyish stuff this week. Last week was crashing and was spent being sick, writing and watching movies.

4 Kings Rabbitry had a blog post on rabbitry expensives so I thought I’d throw out a bit of info I have for my own rabbitry:

Cages – $80, $30, $60, $40 – total cages: 21 (all wire with trays) total spent: $210

Cages are something I’m very satisfied with. 3 of the cages I have can be over $200 (not sure of their current price) and since I don’t have space for any more cages, I’m fairly certain I can say my cages are complete. :)

Supplies – water bottles, brushes, food bowls, nestboxes, etc -  Total spent: (aprox.) $50

I was very lucky in that a lot of my supplies was free or cheap . . . however, the full price items do add up

Shed – FREE!

Rabbits – over $500 dollars, yup – that’s where it gets expensive for me! but to be fair, I have sold a lot and made some money. ;)

Total spent:

Aprox: $760

and I’m a youth breeder so this doesn’t include electricity, things my parents got me as presents, etc.

Rabbits are expensive. o_O

I’ll keep y’all updated on Solar . . . she’s definetly got something in her tummy!

Hope everyone is having an AWESOME break!

New Blog

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Kayla asked me to check out her blog so I thought you guys should too! :)

http://www.sunsetrabbitry.blogspot.com/

I’m going to add it to my links hopefully . . . I may forget.

Hannah’s buck is fine she said. :) He had an abscess but it drained without needing any extra work. Thank you all for thinking of her!
